The new building for Germersheim’s fire department is an elongated, compact block that follows the alignment of the southern feeder road and harmoniously fits on its site atop an asphalt-covered plateau. The building asserts itself confidently while also interacting with the surrounding streets. The building expresses its independence, which is fitting for a fire station. By selecting a simple rectangle as its architectural form, the building is given a face on all four sides. The building has no back side. The building’s autonomous function and its organizational structure are clearly visible from the exterior.
